Stoked! A Day at Crystal Beach, Zambales

San Narciso, Zambales is famous for its beaches which is very much well-suited for surfing, and Crystal Beach is just one of them. It's just a mere 3 hour-leisurely drive from Manila (30-45 minutes away from Subic), making it our favorite quick getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Crystal Beach is a beach resort and campsite with big and mini huts scattered over a vast area of land with pine and coconut trees. Its also one of the prime spots for beginner to advanced surfers. Their huts/rooms ranges from P1500-P6000, and for the outdoorsy people, they even rent out tents to sleep in for only P150. As for the food, you can cook your own food over barbeque pits of just head over to their canteen or carenderias outside for cheap but tasty meals below P100.

This is the best cottage in Crystal Beach, i must say. Overnight stay costs only P2,000 and you get to enjoy the full view of the beach while lounging in the very relaxing and cozy balcony. Included in the cottage rental price is the unlimited use of karaoke machine as well.

OFF TO GO SURFING!
For beginners, Crystal Beach offers lessons as well as surfboards. Ive never really surfed until I came here. "Kila-bot" the surboard rental store right outside Crystal Beach is owned by Bubot. Boards are up for rent for only P150 per hour, while the lessons are at P180 per hour. These rates are negotiable, but rest assured that you will stand up before the sea becomes flat as his instructors are definitely Zambales' pride when it comes to surfing.

It was my first time to ride the waves, and Martin's third. I was advised to hire a trainer P200/hour just to learn the basics on how to stand on the surfboard. It was really a wise choice since he was really of big help. Took quite a while before I get there but I did.. standing up on my surfboard was really the highlight of that day!

Enjoying the sunset.

Zambales trip would never be complete without a side (food) trip to Xtremely Xpresso Cafe located at Subic Bay Freeport Zone. Its a one stop shop—cafe, restaurant, bakery, deli and wine cellar all at once. It has a unique original atmosphere that is home to extreme sized pizzas and a lot more!
